size matters
When I ordered the frame, the application had me enter the size of my painting, which was 36 in x 59 7/8 in. I was under the impression that the inside dimension of the frame would be about 1/4 in (or so) larger than the picture, to allow for adjustment and proper fitting. In the past, whenever I have ordered a "standard" size frame, there was some "wiggle room" for adjustment. Apparently, I was wrong with this one.

The inside frame size was exactly the dimensions of the painting, and the painting barely fit into the frame, but very snugly. In fact, when I placed the picture in the frame one of the corners of the frame separated due to the pressure exerted by the edge of the painting.

I was able to plane down the edges of the painting (which is on a cradled panel) allowing the painting to fit into the frame with some minimal "wiggle room". I plan to re-glue the separated corner piece of the frame, but I find the whole procedure very annoying and possibly detrimental to the final appearance of the framed painting. Did I miss something in the ordering process?

Response from pictureframes.com
Hello William. Thank you for reaching out to us. You are absolutely correct in assuming that the Frames should have an 'allowance'. Typically, the allowance is 1/8" on both the width and height. Instead of you being inconvenienced by gluing the frame's corners back together, please call us so we can replace the frame. If you could please email us a photo showing the corner has separated, we will be glad to replace the frame at no charge. Our email address is customercare@pictureframes.com, or we can reached by phone at 1-800-332-8884. Thank you for your feedback.

I needed a deeper frame, because I have spacers to separate the painting from the acrylic, and there just wasn't enough room in the frame that isn't as deep as this. I need 1/16 for the acrylic, 1/4 for the spacers, 1/2 for the painting on the foam board, and another 1/2 for the foam board backing. So that's well over an inch right there.
