Everything You Need to Know About Editions at pictureframes.com

It's Faster and Easier to Order Editions Online!

1. Order paper sample pack (optional but recommended)

To help you select the perfect paper for your edition, you can order a paper sample pack here. Our paper samples are each printed with one full-color fine art image and one black-and-white photographic image. The cost for a paper sample pack is $5.00, which is refunded when you order your proof—or anything else—from pictureframes.com (the samples come with a coupon for $5.00).

2. Select a maximum output size for your image

Maybe you want your image at actual size this time, but will you want enlargements in the future? Before you photograph or scan your image to create a digital image file, think about the maximum print size you might want for this image. Get a digital image file that will work for the largest size you might want. Especially if you're paying for professional photography or scanning, you'll want to avoid having to rephotograph or rescan your work.

3. Scan or photograph your work to create a digital image file

You need a 300 dpi image at the (largest) size at which you want to print your image (a common mistake is to create a 300 dpi image, but at a smaller size).

For a fine art piece, scan or photograph your image. Scanning may not be an option for large pieces and stretched canvases. Google Local can help you find a scanning service or a photographer in your area—just go to http://local.google.com/ and include your ZIP code at the end of your search:

If you use a professional photographer to shoot your work, make sure to find one who's experienced in shooting for print—it's different from other kinds of photography.

For photography, you can create a digital file directly from your negative, positive transparency, or high-quality print.

4. Upload your file

Make sure you are logged in under your account (or create an account if you don't have one).

Upload your image here.

5. Set dimensions / select paper

When you've uploaded your image, your image file will be analyzed and the maximum print size for your file will be displayed. You can get larger prints from your image file by enabling the automated image enlargement process.

Set your desired print size and border width. More border width means more framing choices for your buyers, and greater perceived value. Remember to leave room for your signature and edition number, if needed.

Then select the paper you would like your edition printed on.

6. Review price / Order proof

Click "Update Price" to review the price of your proof (remember—this cost will be credited back to you when you order your edition, making the proof effectively free). This is the base cost of one edition print. Review volume discounts.

Click "Order a Proof" to checkout and have a proof sent to you for approval.

7. Approve proof

Before you place your edition order, you must return a signed proof. If you want adjustments in color, cropping, etc., return the proof with correction instructions, and we'll send you a corrected proof. Review correction fees.

8. Order edition prints

When we receive your approved, signed proof, your edition will be released for ordering in our system. Just go back to your personal editions gallery and add the edition to your cart and select number of prints. At this time, the price of your first proof will be subtracted from your total.
