Proofing Process

Why Proof My Image?
Ordering a proof is the first step in the Proofing Process (sometimes referred to as the "pre-press" process). The Proofing Process is essential for us to provide the ideal reproduction and must be done before your image moves into edition production. The final proof is also archived and used to evaluate the accuracy of your edition prints, as we reproduce them.

FREE Proof with Your Edition Order!

  • The proof you approve for edition production will be FREE (the cost is credited back to your account) once you place the order for your edition.
  • Shipping costs are not included in the credit.
  • If additional proofs were necessary during the proofing process, they will be charged at the single print rate.
  • In the event that you provided original artwork, it will be returned to you with your first proof.

Choosing the Perfect Paper

  • If you’re not sure which print surface you plan to use, order a paper sample kit to get a sense of which substrate most appeals to you.
  • You can change your print surface after proofing, but you’ll have to go through the proofing process again. This is because various papers have warmer or cooler undertones and textural differences that impact the finished product. Determining your ideal print surface first will save you both time and money, which is why we recommend you order a paper sample kit before your first proof.

Your First Proof

  • Your first proof is printed directly from the uploaded digital file in the size and on the print surface you chose during the online process — the same selections we will use for your edition. This proof will show how your prints will look if we make no changes to your digital file.
  • While other giclee printing companies will only print a miniature version or a thin strip of your print as a proof, we find that it is well worth the opportunity to evaluate your proof at full-size, so there are no enlargement or color surprises when your final edition prints arrive.
  • In most cases, your first proof is the only proof needed. With your approval marked on the mailed-back proof, editions production will begin.
  • In the event that you want to make changes to your reproduction, such as color corrections, image size or even the chosen substrate, simply mark them on your proof and send it back. We will send you another proof with your requested corrections. Correction fees apply.
  • • Remember, there are NO SETUP FEES for digital files you upload yourself!

Finalizing Your Proof

  • Your proof is marked "printer’s proof" on the back, so there is no confusing it with a final print.
  • Examine your proof and decide whether it needs corrections or not.
  • If you would like to request changes, such as color-correcting or cropping, mark the changes directly on the proof and mail it back in the reusable package. We will send you a new proof with the changes you’ve requested.
  • If you’re pleased with your proof, sign, validate and mail it back in the re-usable package. You can now order your edition of five or more prints, online, by visiting your Image Gallery.
