Original Artwork

Most Expensive, Risky and Time Consuming Way to Begin an Edition

Find A Trusted Studio Photographer To Photograph Your Artwork
All Artwork Should Be Insured Before Shipping
Original Artwork Can Not Be Sent Via U.S. Mail

Weighing Your Options
By sending us your original artwork, you can be assured that you will have the greatest color-accuracy for your edition, because we will be able to match our digital file to your original, right there, in our studio. Unfortunately, this is also the most costly option. You will be paying more for proper packaging, shipping and higher set-up fees. Additionally, it’s the option that takes the longest amount of time to get your project started because of the wait-time before we receive your artwork and then the extra steps involved in creating a digital file from it, once it arrives.

Please keep these issues in mind when deciding whether to send us your original artwork. Many artists are leery of shipping their original artwork, and we understand. The added expenses and extra time, not to mention additional anxiety, lead most artists to convert their valuable originals to transparency or a digital version, locally, instead. This is also the preferred method at pictureframes.com.

Converting Your Artwork to Transparency or a Digital Version
To convert artwork to daylight balanced positive transparencies or digital images, we recommend finding a local professional studio photographer. Ask other local artists whom they trust with their art, or, consult the internet for a studio photographer. Visit our FAQ page for more information about what your photographer needs to know.

If you have a professional scanner in your home office and are well versed in its possibilities, you may want to consider scanning your artwork, yourself – especially if you’re working with small originals. Some artists will take their work to a local photo lab for scanning.

Pictureframes.com is specially designed so that you can upload your digital images from home, anytime, day or night. You may also mail the CD/DVD or transparency.

Protecting and Insuring Original Art for Shipment
In the end, if you prefer to send us your original artwork, please use the utmost caution in safeguarding such precious cargo. Make sure your work is protected against all possible mishaps and properly insured for loss or damage. The U.S. Mail offers very limited insurance on works of art, so you’ll need to choose another carrier. Because all original artwork is truly priceless, we leave insurance values up to you.

When we receive your artwork, we will photograph or scan it depending upon which we feel is more appropriate for your individual work of art. When working with an original artwork, set-up fees run from $100.00 to $400.00, depending upon the nature and size of the original (the larger the original work of art, the more involved its image capture becomes), as well as the intended size of the reproduction.

Note: When shipping us an original pastel work, please make sure to apply a fixative, so your pastels stay true and don’t rub off during shipping.

Please direct shipments of your original artwork to:

Graphik Dimensions Ltd.

All work should be accompanied by your completed order form and copyright form.
