Our History

The Brainchild of a Pair of Artists

Back in 1965, up-and-coming artists Joan and Stephen Feinsod faced a constant challenge, brought on by the commercial success of their work: Where to find affordable picture frames that met their high standards of artistry and excellence? The solution was to order quality framing materials in volume and create their own frames at an exceptional value.

Little did they know, as they put their first custom-made frames together and sold the extras to fellow artists at shows and exhibitions, they were planting the seeds of one of the largest and most respected framing companies in America. Soon, their framing was in heavy demand and they found themselves spending more and more time filling picture frame orders than painting and sketching.

Growth in Leaps and Bounds

After a few years, Graphik Dimensions Ltd. (GD) grew from a home-based business to a full-fledged production facility in Flushing, NY, where the GD family grew by leaps and bounds. The company quickly established a solid reputation among artists, photographers and galleries, and by the early 80s the GD catalog had become a valued tool-of-the-trade for artists and photographers.

With continued success came the demand for more skilled craftspeople, new equipment, and a bigger building to contain it all. In 1992, after conducting a nationwide search, Graphik Dimensions Ltd. relocated to High Point, North Carolina. Here, in the Home Furnishings Capitol of the World, Graphik Dimensions built an impressive team of accomplished craftspeople to assemble fine art picture frames.

Over the years, the company has taken several nationally recognized Gold Awards for Excellence and Achievement in Catalog Marketing from the American Catalog Awards. The Feinsods also helped found the Woodlands 2000 Foundation in 1992, an organization that replants a tree for every tree cut and promotes products that are rainforest materials free and environmentally friendly.

New Leadership — Same Quality and Value

In 2006, a new generation of the Feinsod family has stepped up to take GD into the future. Lauri Feinsod, the new President and CEO, is re-imaging the business and taking it to the next level by expanding offerings to include even more services to help artists and photographers profit from their work, and more ways for everyday home consumers to bring more choices, expert advice and — of course — amazing values to fuel their creativity and help them surround themselves with the beautiful and the inspiring.

Relationships are also being re-imagined. From the inside out, Graphik Dimensions is growing and changing. There is a visible shift of internal corporate culture as well as a new approach of working with business clients and partners. • Special events free to Artists & Photographers. These events are both local and national, and contribute to the success of the Artist & Photographer community by answering questions and giving advice about the products and services we offer.

• Fine art printing for professional creatives and everyone else — our in-house giclee print team serves artists and photographers with fine art quality giclee editions for resale. And finally, home consumers have easy access to the same fine-art paper substrates, matting and framing options with the award winning Print & Frame service, allowing anyone to create a giclee masterpiece.

• Unique business services programs lead by a team of knowledgeable experts. Services include custom printing and framing, expert product development, and proprietary web services that help artists, photographers, and businesses sell framed imagery online — and much more!

• Custom mirrors created through our interactive online interface, featuring our entire selection of quality frames.

Seeing the Creativity in Everyone

The seeds of the company are firmly rooted in the world of art — begun amid a modest group of artists and photographers; Graphik Dimensions now supports the creation of art everywhere. Anyone with an enthusiasm to create has a home at GD, and the branches of Joan's and Stephen's dream now extend to galleries, grandmothers, schools, shops, photographers and businesses the world over. Plus, Joan and Stephen not only continue to support art and photography organizations throughout the country, but they continue to create. In her spare time, Joan paints and exhibits her art, while Stephen explores his passion for digital photography. Of course, they only display their work in frames from Graphik Dimensions Ltd.!
