Anthony Silk:
An Everyday Child Picasso

Anthony Silk is a bright and confident 7-year-old boy. And so he should be — his family cheers on his creativity and achievements each day with enthusiasm! For example...

An Elementary School Art Project

Anthony was in the second grade at Baucom Elementary in Apex, NC when his art teacher, Mrs. Bonnie Brunner, assigned his class a fun project:

"Our instructions were to make a self-portrait of ourselves in bed," says Anthony.

So he got to work. Using only construction paper, Anthony spent eight long hours planning out and piecing together an intricate illustration of himself and his bedroom.

He carefully cut out block after block to recreate his comfy quilt at home. He cut abstract strips of paper to mimic his colorful wallpaper. He even included his dresser, a lava lamp, a window with stars twinkling through the curtains, his pet lizard, Eagle, and of course, himself –smiling and tucked in for a long nights' sleep.

Commending the Results

The final piece was a whopping 23"x17" and quite exceptional! His proud mother, Stephanie Silk, saw a masterpiece. She wanted to show him just how impressed she was, and decided to have his 2nd grade art project matted and framed.

Anthony's Aunt, Elaine Wright, was just as thrilled with the final product of his construction paper self-portrait. "When I first saw the artwork, I thought, WOW! Anthony might be the one in the family with creative talent!" says a lighthearted Elaine.

The Possibilities at pictureframes.com

The Original
First, Elaine vigilantly took a high resolution digital picture of Anthony's original art. This made it easy to upload the image to Personal Frame Shop and play with different mat and frame presentations.

"Since there are many colors, patterns and general 'busy' theme, I wanted something that would pop, but not fight for attention. I chose a yellow frame from the Milano Collection and a smooth black mat to accomplish this quite perfectly."

The Reproduction Aunt Elaine loved the framed artwork and didn't want to give it up. Knowing that she couldn't hold it hostage, she uploaded the same high resolution picture to our Print & Frame Shop. From there, she recreated Anthony's masterpiece on fine art Velvet Digital Art Paper and framed the reproduction in the same treatment as the original.

Famous Anthony

Now, the original artwork is displayed in Anthony's home for family and friends to ogle, while Elaine enjoys her own copy as it hangs in her home office.

"I felt very famous and proud," says Anthony of the moment when he first saw his artwork framed; "Now I'm working on a paper napkin project!"
