Amazing frame!
I love these frames! They are incredibly easy to assemble and look so expensive. My only complaint has nothing to do with quality. It's the eye-poppingly expensive oversize shipping charge! I cannot justify buying larger sizes unless I have a pretty sizable discount to offset some of the additional charge. A 48 x 48 was going to run me almost $200 in oversized shipping fees!! If you include regular shipping charges and the oversized fee, it costs nearly DOUBLE the price of the frame to ship a 48 x 48. I wanted to cry! If you can swing the crazy shipping fees on larger frames, though, then you must try this particular style. It is so amazing!

Good frame, not so good instructions
The Good –

1. The frame is very nice. It came very well packed (so well packed that it took 10 minutes to get it out from all of the packing material!!) and arrived in perfect shape.

2. The size was exactly what I had ordered.

The Not So Good –

1. The frame is very narrow in the place where you must screw in the hardware. As a result, the frame cracks and splits when the screw is tightened. This happened even though I had drilled a starter hole. To prevent it from happening on all of the screws, I had to drill bigger starter holes. Then it worked fine.

The instructions make no mention of the need for starter holes, but they are absolutely necessary. So, Picture Frames should revise their inadequate instruction sheet to advise customers that they must drill starter holes that are almost the width of the screws in order to prevent the frame from splitting.

2. The hardware included 7 mounting brackets. This was an odd number (no pun intended) since they could not be evenly distributed around the frame. I used just 6 of them, and they worked fine.

However, each mounting bracket requires 2 screws (plus at least 2 more screws for the hardware for the hanging wire). So, you need a total of at least 14 screws, while the package only contained 10 screws. As an average DIY guy, I had plenty of screws at my workbench, so I was able to complete the installation, but Picture Frames should have included enough screws for the job.

3. I used this frame to mount a galley wrapped canvas. That means that the dimensions of the art are not exactly uniform. In my case, the inset part of the frame turned out to be bigger than the canvas. Maybe some of that is my bad measuring job since, as I said, the frame was in the exact dimensions I ordered.

So, here is a tip that Picture Frames should include for customers like me.

If the frame is a little too large, you will need to be sure the canvas is positioned exactly so that the floating gaps are even. First, install the brackets on the back of the frame. Then, put the frame on a flat surface facing up. Insert the canvas and position it exactly. Next, use narrow strips of corrugated cardboard or anything similar to wedge the canvas in place. Once it is firmly secured, gently flip the frame with the canvas still in it and attach the brackets to the canvas frame. Turn I t back over and remove the wedging strips.

Summary –

This is a very nice frame, but the instructions need to be improved, particularly as to eth need for starter holes for the screws

Response from pictureframes.com
Thank you for your review William. We will work on updating our paper instructions for installing the canvas inside of the Floater Frames. We will also consider sending more screws to install the canvas inside the frame. Typically we do not suggest drilling starter holes. The brackets are meant to screw into the stretcher bar, not the frame itself. There may be more detailed instructions we need to provide regarding the placement of the screws to attach the frame to the canvas. If you have the opportunity, please take a look at one of our instructional videos online. We appreciate you giving the detailed account of how to safely install the canvas inside of the frame. Our frames have an 1/8" allowance added to the width and the height, therefore, it is very important to measure correctly. If there are any further concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-332-8884.

Will this work for a canvas that is only 3/4 inch deep?

How do I put picture in floater frame?
A shopper on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Floater frames are designed to hold a canvas. The canvas will insert from the front of the frame. Floater Frames do not have a 'lip' on the front of the frame, therefore, a piece of paper or photograph will not work with a Floater Frame. When using a Floater Frame, please be aware of the depth of the Frame. You will need to make sure the depth of the frame is compatible with the depth of the canvas.

I have a 36 x 48 gallery wrapped canvas with a 1 3/8 inch profile. Is this the correct size?
Adair M on Feb 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello Adair. Thank you for submitting your inquiry. The 36x48 width and height is the size the frame needs to be. The depth/rabbet of the frame is what we need to make sure is correct. Based on the depth of the canvas being 1 3/8", the 1 5/8" frame will work just fine.
We have a 48 x 48 wood panel that is approximately 1 1/2” in depth. Will this frame work since it’s not canvas?
Rob M on Oct 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Rob,

Thank you for your inquiry. The rabbet on this frame is 1.5" so your wood panel would fit well into this frame. Please be aware that the sides of your wood panel will be visible through the "float space" in the floater frame. Also, you would be inserting screws into the wood panel to attach the piece to the frame. If neither of those comments sounds like a hindrance this should be a lovely frame for your artwork. You can also order a free 3" sample of this frame to get a better understanding of how it compares to your artwork and fits with your home decor. If you have any additional questions do not hesitate to contact our friendly framing experts at 1-800-332-8884.

Happy Framing!
I have a canvas that's 2" thick. Would this 1-5/8" frame work?
Karen W on Apr 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I use this frame for my deep-edge canvases that are 1.5" deep. That results in the face of the painting being level with the face of the frame. If your canvas is 2" deep, the face of your painting will project .5" forward from the face of the frame. I think it might look awkward.
My canvas is 1 1/2 thick will the gold floater frame fit?
maria p on Jun 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Maria! Thank you for asking! This particular frame is designed to accommodate stretched canvas up to 1 1/2" thick. The frame is perfect for your canvas! As always, happy framing!

is there something similar for a wood painting? i want my gallery to match
Tammy T on Jun 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Tammy. Are you referring to a wood panel that you've painted on? Depending on the depth, this frame could still work for you. We suggest ordering a sample so that you can ensure it's the perfect frame for you!

I have a 24x36 frame 1.5 depth would this frame work?
A shopper on Mar 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This frame will work for you. Thank you!
I need a product recommendation for one of the gold leaf frames for artwork that is 16x20x1. I'm not sure which frame size to choose. I don't want a 'skimpy' look, so a deeper rabbet size seems desirable, but I don't want the recess of the artwork in the deeper rabbet to look weird. Is there a way to 'build up' a deeper rabbet to appropriately accommodate the 1" canvas depth?
Michelle C on May 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Michelle! We have several beautiful gold leaf frames that are available. The CFL3 frame pictured here is designed to hold canvas only. Please take a look at some of the suggestions below. The rabbet/depth of the frame can be filled in with excess cardboard if there is more space than needed. and let us know if you need anything further. Thank you so much for your business!
Would this frame work on a 1" canvas?
Kathleen C on Apr 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Kathleen! The rabbet/depth of the frame is 1 1/2" which will work with the Canvas. Keep in mind, the 1" Canvas will recess inside the frame by 1/2". Thank you for your inquiry!
My canvas is 1 5/8" thick, will this frame work with it?
A shopper on Mar 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello! This exquisite frame is designed to work perfectly with a 1 5/8" canvas. Thank you for your inquiry!
Are all the necessary hardware pieces included (screws, wire and wire attachments)?
Jane W on Feb 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello! Yes, the frame will arrive with all the hardware needed to hang the frame. Thanks!
Would this floater frame work with a 12x12 gessoed pannel?
A shopper on Nov 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello! Thank you for your inquiry. This beautiful frame is designed to hold a canvas that is 1 5/8" in depth. Unfortunately, a canvas panel will not work with this frame. Please let us know if you have more questions. Happy Framing!
Would this work for a 1 2/8" thick canvas? Is this difficult to assemble? My canvas is 48x34" is there another frame that will cover 2/8" of the canvas?

Also, a frame this size can be send unassembled. The assembling materials will be sent with the frame. The process of assembling the frame is not difficult, however, with a frame this size you may want assistance. The instructions will be included with the frame.
A shopper on Apr 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This frame will work with your 1 2/8" deep canvas. The frame is 1 5/8" deep which gives you 3/8" of space left in the back of the frame.
What is used to attach to frame?
