Can a canvas be hung in this frame?

BEST ANSWER: Hi Laura,
I framed a canvas in it, but the stretcher bars were only 7/8s thick. Even so, the canvas did stick out on the back a bit. I needed special offset hardware to secure it. I then used heavy layers of backing paper to smooth it all out. The frame also had a white liner. Apart from all that, the frame looked wonderful on the painting and I'm very pleased with it.

Is this frame sturdy enough to put a mirror in?
